Honouring the Sacred in Our Lives — A meditation retreat for health professionals in Guatemala

February 11 @ 4:00 pm - February 18 @ 12:00 pm

$2,650.00 – $3,450.00

Reclaim the sacred in your life on the beautiful shores of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala

The culture and practice of Medicine carries many challenges, as well as blessings.  Often, the work demands, moral injury, and sheer exhaustion can lead to a pervasive numbness we refer to as burnout.  Healing can happen.  However, it requires us to allow, and care for, our own suffering, in order to reconnect to ourselves, our joy and our places of meaning in our work and life.  Retreat provides the space and quiet needed to begin this healing.

Join Dr. Mark Sherman and your community of fellow physicians and health professionals on the shores of the sacred Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.  The focus of this retreat is rediscovering meaning and joy in our lives as health professionals, and to learn how to carry this into all that we say and do.  This 7 day retreat will teach basic and more advanced meditation skills, allowing significant practice times for formal and informal mindfulness, while immersed in the restful and picturesque sanctuary that is Yoga Forest.  Silent sitting periods of meditation will be interspersed with walking practice; mindful inquiry; group discussion; and time for self exploration and rest.

Lake Atitlan, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, is also a traditional place of worship and sanctity for the Mayan people. Located in a dormant volcanic crater in the mountains outside Antigua, Lake Atitlan is surrounded by lush forests, volcanoes and villages where traditional Mayan culture still unfolds amidst the intersperse of the modern day.

This retreat will involve a transition/integration period on Days 1 and 7, and then a silent retreat between Days 2-6.  It will take place at Yoga Forest, located in the lush jungle outside of San Marcos de Laguna.  Accommodations include private, semi-private, double and quad shares.  Arrivals and introductions will be in the late afternoon/ early evening of Sunday, February 11, 2024 and the retreat will end after lunch on Sunday, February 18, 2024.  Tuition includes accommodation, 2 meals per day (brunch and dinner — though fresh fruit is available all day), and transportation (as a group) up from, and back to, the village of San Marcos de Laguna.

  • Quad (dorm) accommodation  $2650
  • Double (twin) accommodtion $3050
  • Semi-Private accommodation $3250
  • Private accommodation $3450
